My quest for the perfect body....

In the spring of 1999 I decided, after many years of hating my body, to actually do something about it. I'd occasionally gone through phases of using low-fat milk and cutting down on butter but I was doing no exercise, eating pure crap and drinking far too much alcohol. As with most people I didn't "start" eating crap and drinking too much, it just slowly progressed over the years. And with it - came the gut. And if you'd seen me walk a mile you'd have called an ambulance.... I was seriously sweating and panting after such a short walk.

So the junk food went in the bin. The alcohol counter at Safeway became out of bounds. Going out drinking became a thing of the past. I bought an exercise machine and a set of weights.

The objective was never to become a super-muscled hunk. Well, not at first anyway.... I just wanted to be able to look at myself naked in the mirror without feeling sick. The few months I did this in 1999 was about giving me a body I didn't hate. I achieved it - through will power and determination. It wasn't easy, and I was no angel - I probably ate more chocolate in the 5 or so months than in the past few years. I had drinking binges. But the guilt of doing that made me carry on! I stopped in October '99 because the diet was a bit extreme.... and I was happy with what I'd done. I only ever did it for me!

You can see what I did in 1999 and 2000, and now I've started a new fitness and diet programme for 2001 there's a new section for you to see how I'm doing. (yes, I did put half a stone on and lost some of the definition since last year!)
