18th September 2000

As I write this I'm currently 35,000 feet above Scotland. So they say - as usual in the UK it's pissing it down with rain, so all I can see is a blanket of white cloud. Good job I'm leaving it behind for two whole weeks....

Virgin flight VS19 direct to San Francisco left on time from Heathrow Airport and has been in the air just over one hour now.... I have a can of beer in one hand, my digital camera in the other, and I'm still able to type this.... do you know how to do that boys and girls?

The view out of the plane. Obviously.

I've already set my clock (I don't do watches....) for SF time - so right now it's 4.15 in the morning. Funny - that's the second time today I've been awake at 4.15 in the morning.... now I am confused....

Say goodbye to Scotland. Thankfully....

Well, that's the UK behind us... We seem to be taking the cooks tour though.... I though the USA was on the left - the pilot went up and turned left at Scotland - we'll be in Greenland at this rate....

The little screen in front of me.

So we're now over greenland. I thought as much. I did this screen shot because you couldn't see anything but clouds from the plane.

Canada. Obviously.

The constant cloud cover got a bit dull, so I told it to break up by the time we got to Canada. So it did.

California at last!

After 11 hours on the plane we finally started to descend into San Francisco - where I amazed everyone by getting from the plane, through immigration and customs and outside in under 10 minutes. Wanna know how? (and no, I didn't do a runner....) If you want to know this very simple but life-saving tip, email me. Go on, you know you want to.

Jim met me at the airport.... He'd hot-wired Jason's truck while he was out so we rode back in style at 120 mph, weaving in and out of the traffic - as Jim said, Jason will get the tickets.... and got back to Jim's stately mansion just in time to take the truck 100 yards to the shop to buy a packet of cigarettes....

Jim. On the 'phone.

At least he's giving me his undivided attention....

Now - where does Jim keep the beers.....   Rob.
